This Privacy Policy explains how Wine Night ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use winenight.fun and the Wine Night web application (the "Service").
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account we collect: your email address, your display name, your authentication provider (email, Google, or Apple), and an account creation timestamp. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we also receive your profile photo URL from those providers.
Tasting data
For each tasting you host or join we store: the wines entered, your scores, your tasting notes, the participant list, and timestamps. This data is associated with your account so you can revisit it from the "Past Tastings" view.
Subscription & billing
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details — only Stripe does. We receive and store your Stripe customer ID, subscription status, plan, and billing period end date so we can manage your hosting quota.
Analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the Service is used. GA4 collects anonymised usage data: page views, navigation events, device type, approximate location (country/region), and session duration. We never see GA4 data tied to your real-world identity.
Server logs
Our hosting provider (Vercel) logs HTTP request metadata (timestamp, status code, IP address) for operational and security purposes. These logs are retained for up to 30 days.
2. How we use your information
- To provide the Service: account creation, authentication, hosting and joining tastings, generating AI taster profiles.
- To process payments and manage your subscription via Stripe.
- To send transactional emails (e.g. payment receipts via Stripe).
- To analyse aggregate Service usage so we can improve the product (only if you've consented to analytics).
- To respond to support requests and operational issues.
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data with third parties except the service providers described below.
3. Third-party service providers
Wine Night uses the following processors:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication and database (Firestore). Hosted in the United States.
- Vercel — application hosting and serverless API endpoints. Hosted in the United States.
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription management. Hosted in the United States.
- Google Gemini API — AI sommelier insights. Tasting summary text is sent to the Gemini API; no personal identifiers are included in those requests.
- Google Analytics 4 — usage analytics (only if you consent).
4. AI-generated content
Group summaries and individual taster profiles are generated by Google's Gemini AI model. We send anonymised tasting data (wine names, scores, category breakdowns) to Gemini to generate the text. We do not send your name, email, or any personally identifying information.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
Wine Night uses:
- Essential cookies / local storage — used to keep you signed in and remember in-progress tastings. Cannot be disabled without breaking the Service.
- Analytics cookies (GA4) — only loaded if you accept analytics in our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's site data for winenight.fun.
6. Data retention
- Account & tasting data: retained for as long as your account exists.
- Subscription history: retained for 7 years for tax/accounting purposes (legal requirement).
- Server logs: 30 days.
- If you delete your account (see below), all account and tasting data is removed within 30 days.
7. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g. GDPR in the EU/UK, CCPA in California, the Australian Privacy Act), you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your data.
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent for analytics.
Deleting your account
You can delete your Wine Night account at any time from the home screen of the app. This permanently removes your account, your tasting history, and your subscription data within 30 days. Stripe payment records are retained per legal requirements.

8. Children
Wine Night is intended for users of legal drinking age in their country (18 or 21+ depending on jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under those ages. If you believe we have, please contact us and we will delete the account.
9. International data transfers
Your data is stored on infrastructure located primarily in the United States. By using Wine Night you consent to your data being transferred to and processed in the United States.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Material changes will be communicated via the app or email. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
